"Value-Formation" Classes

Marymount Centre provides a safe and nurturing environment for girls aged 4-18 years old who have experienced some form of challenges in their family. We have been conducting Value Formation Classes at the Marymount Centre for their Ahuva Good Shepherd Children’s Home and Interim Placement and Assessment Centre since 2018. Our weekly value classes focus on nurturing values and the innate goodness in the children. We strive to foster a foundation of self- confidence, values and a sense of purpose in their livesWe have been impressed and inspired by the wisdom and goodness of the children.

Distribution of Essentials

Distribution of Essentials

Uplift has been working with Hao Ren Hao Shi with their initiatives for over 2 years. Hao Ren Hao Shi is a non-profit organization that improves the lives of underprivileged families by providing essential supplies and provisions. The motivation to create platforms and opportunities for students to serve those in need and to promote the joy of volunteerism resonates very much with Uplift. There are 3 main initiatives that we support:

(1) Monthly Distributions in a School,

(2) Monthly Distributions in Toa Payoh, and

(3) A mobile Charity

Monthly Distribution of Essentials in Schools

Together with Hao Ren Hao Shi, Uplift works with a primary school to coordinate the required provisions for vulnerable families. The school principal, vice-principal, teachers and students come back to school on the first Saturday of each month to pack and distribute the provisions to these families. This is a purposeful initiative for students to truly experience the joy of giving and that too under the guidance and support of their school leaders, their role models.

Monthly Distributions of Essentials in Toa Payoh

On the first Saturday of every month, Hao Ren Hao Shi prepares and distributes over 1000 essential provisions island wide to those in need. Uplift volunteers then support the distribution of these essentials. We gather at 6.30am at Toa Payoh to unload lorries of items, arrange them ready for packing, and these provisions are then packed and distributed island-wide.

Some of the students from our Value Formation workshops from Marymount Centre join us for this distribution. We take this opportunity to share with the students the challenges others are experiencing, and the students express their joy to be able to help the community. They never fail to let us know how they look forward to the next distribution.

Mobile Charity

Mobile Charity increases the accessibility of essential provisions to residents and the elderly. Uplift has led some of these mobile charity drives. The set-up of this form of charity encourages very young volunteers to play their part in service. What better way to learn to care for others than to be able to be part of it at a very young age?
